Meet Our Staff

Welcome to Smyrna Soccer Club!  Originally founded in 1988 as Smyrna West Soccer Association, we decided to simplify our name and changed it to Smyrna Soccer Club several seasons ago.  That first season we had roughly only 40 players. Now in our 24th year, we have over 1,100 members and are continuing to grow each season as the wonderful sport of soccer continues to gain in popularity, not only here in Smyrna but across the entire globe.

It is important to know that the board members of this league are all volunteers.  We take tremendous pride in providing the youth of our community with a program that is instructional, educational and fun at an extremely affordable price to our members, especially compared to other leagues in the metro-Atlanta area.  Please understand that the three to four weeks prior to the season starting are our busiest time, so if it seems we’re a little frazzled it is only because we are!  Can we do things better? Sure, but as volunteers this league depends on help from you.  We will be a little better or a little worse depending on the amount of help you give.   If you would like to help, please contact us.

I am Shawn Dennard  mother of Brynn Thompson on the U-11 Academy Team.
My family and I have been involved with Smyrna Soccer since 2006. During that time I have seen the club tripled in size as a player's parent and team mom.  I am asking for your vote for Smyrna Soccer Club President to lead the transformation of this organization from a small club to an enhanced program tied tightly to the community and focused on providing the best soccer experience for our children.

My emphasis is to strengthen our communications and operational procedures as well as interactions with Georgia Soccer Association and the City of Smyrna. This will allow us to run more efficiently and consistently making the children and parents experience more pleasurable and fulfilling while attracting coaches and players. I bring with me 15 years of Managing Consulting and Executive Board experience for local and regional charities and family organizations.

  • Served as coach for the recreational league for 2 years
  • Served on 3 different Non Profit organizations board for over 4 years including Project One Golf Academy, Vinings Mill West HOA and NetIP (network of Indian Professionals).
  • Been a responsible financial advisor for 4 years managing over $24 million in assets with 600+ clients including but not limited to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta

The Smyrna Soccer Club is an organization that I hold very dear to my heart. I joined the club in 1993, after registering my oldest son for U-6 soccer. Since then, I have coached for nineteen years, been an active member of the board for sixteen years, and served as president for seven years.  During my presidency, Smyrna Soccer made several essential steps towards becoming a much stronger, more developmental and competitive league in the metro Atlanta area; and the state of Georgia as a whole. We started the Smyrna Stealth Select Soccer Program, appointed the first paid coach at the recreational level, and increased our field inventory from two parks to six.  While serving as the Director of Tournaments, Smyrna Soccer served as a host site for the state Gatorade tournament, amongst others. As a coach, I lead the first Smyrna team to appear in the State Cup, as well as Smyrna’s first team to win a state championship in the State Chevy Cup.  I currently hold a USSF State-D coaching license and an NSCAA level-1 goalkeeping license. I am also a USSF state certified referee, as well as a state certified high school referee. I was the first and only appointed Member-At-Large, and am still currently holding this position. During my time with Smyrna Soccer, I have developed relationships with many influential individuals within the Georgia Soccer Association, the City of Smyrna, and various leagues across the state. My experiences and growing network have helped the growth of Smyrna soccer, and I hope to be able to continue doing so.
