Smyrna Soccer Club is excited to announce that Steve Gummer will be joining our organization as the Executive Director of Coaching Starting May 1st. Steve has a track record of building successful clubs and will oversee all soccer related affairs for Smyrna. Steve will be tasked with ensuring that players of all ages and skill levels have a positive soccer experience as well as implementing a successful development program that will allow Smyrna to keep its local kids playing for the club. Steve comes to Smyrna Soccer Club from SSA after fourteen years of service. He is very excited about his new position at Smyrna Soccer Club and wishes to keep a positive relationship moving forward with our neighbors, working and supporting in tournament participation scheduling both recreational and academy games.
Eric Homansky (SSC President) explains ‘Steve is a local resident and has a tremendous track record of delivering results in terms of player development, coach support, and organizational administration. Steve is someone who shares our vision of a community based club that can provide a first class soccer experience for the residents of Smyrna. Steve has a proven track record and we are very lucky to have him as part of our organization’.
Steve Gummer holds a USSF "A" and UEFA "B" License, and is the Georgia Licensee for Coerver Coaching the "Worlds # 1 Soccer Skill Teaching Program". He also is a current member of the USL Super "Y" National ODP staff, as well as previously acted as a Head Coach for the Georgia ODP program. Steve has graduated over 50 players into top collegiate soccer programs, as well as three of his former players who play in the MLS. His teams have also won numerous State Cups along with many visits to Regional Championships and a Dallas Cup Championship win.
Steve's philosophy is to teach a passing and moving style of soccer where the development of each and every individual player is a factor in the soccer curriculum. Steve was recently a guest clinician at the NSCAA 2014 National Coaching Convention held in Philadelphia.
Steve is quoted as saying, "That he is very excited and looking forward to the challenge ahead in providing Smyrna Soccer Club with an organizational structure and soccer curriculum that encourages every player to reach their full potential and provide a club where soccer is fun and player and team improvement is noticeably on a month by month basis, teaching players the game, giving them the technical ability to produce strong teams at every level and providing a successful community soccer club that Smyrna can be proud of.
As we continue to make improvements to our club we want to thank all our members who help this club every season from players, parents, coaches and volunteers.
