Smyrna Soccer Club is excited to announce that Kyle Cornell will be joining our organization as the Director of Player and Club Development starting May 20th. Kyle has many years of experience developing younger players while also coaching older Select teams. Kyle will be assisting Executive Director of Coaching, Steve Gummer with all facets of the soccer program, including on-field coaching, coaches education, scheduling and registration. Kyle has been at Tophat Soccer Club for the past six years working in the Academy program as well as coaching multiple Select teams. Prior to Tophat he was the Director of the Academy program at NASA.
Kyle said, “I am extremely happy to be a part of the Smyrna Soccer Club and I look forward to working closely with Steve to implement many programs geared towards the soccer players of Smyrna and creating an exciting environment for the players to learn the game.”
Eric Homansky (SSC President) explains Kyle has great experience with the workings, rules and regulations of Georgia Soccer, and along with this has a proven resume previously working with two of the top girls programs within the State. He has many different talents that will only improve our club as we venture into another new season, where our main focus is creating an excellent technical development pathway for all of players.
Kyle Cornell holds a USSF “C” License, has been an ODP coach, college assistant at Reinhardt University, and served as the Assistant Coach for the U.S. Nation DeafTeam participating in the 2005 Deaf Olympics in Melbourne Australia where the team finished 9th.
Steve Gummer (SSC Executive Director of Coaching) says “Kyle brings a wealth of experience to the club as he has been heavily involved within GA Soccer for many years; he understands the landscape and has proved himself to be a well-rounded coach who has constantly improved players and teams through his hard work and dedication to his previous clubs. Kyle will have an immediate impact and will fit well with the long term plans of the club and player development.”
